The Star hotel has been under the management of Martin Gobbee since 2006 and welcomes new co-director Larissa Covell on board who has not only displayed a passion for the hotel for many years but is a long-term friend of Martin. The pair have agreed to an extensive refurbishment for all 38 bedrooms and common areas, including their function rooms which accommodate weddings - this is in progress and will see the closure of the hotel until early Spring.
Located between Brighton and Eastbourne, The Star offers a historic Tudor style look and feel based in the picturesque village of Alfriston. It attracts clients that are typically looking to retreat on a weekend break to explore the East Sussex countryside and is an ideal setting for weddings – this is the bread and butter for the hotel which already has 42 weddings planned during 2015. With 25 employees on hand to cater for their guests, the new look and feel will safeguard these jobs and deal with the increased demand they are likely to experience.
Martin Gobbee, co- director at The Star Hotel Alfriston explains, “I have been in the hospitality industry since I was 16 years of age so I am very familiar with providing a high level of customer service. The hotel was looking a bit tired so Larissa and I decided to embark on a refurbishment project to bring the hotel up to a standard our guests expect of a hotel in this location. I will be hands on each day at the hotel whilst Larissa will adopt more of a hands off approach but will be fully engaged in the hotels activity.
“I have banked with RBS for a number of years and have been impressed with their personal support during this time. We are delighted they have helped us enhance the future of this business which will no doubt attract new faces to the hotel in and around the local area.”
Andy Page, Senior Relationship Manager at RBS in Brighton added, “The Star Hotel Alfriston has a wonderful reputation locally and I am delighted I could support their plans to improve the look and feel and bring a new co-director on board who has already demonstrated her ambitious plans and standards for the hotel. I wish Martin and Larissa all the best for their official opening in March.”
