This morning I had the opportunity to attend the launch of Kent & Medway Growth Hub, held at Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce in Ashford.
There was much interest in the event and the conference hall was packed, as local business people flocked to hear how the initiative would benefit them. When the project was introduced by Tudor Price, business development manager at the Chamber, there was a clear emphasis on the fact that businesses need quick and easy access to clear, understandable advice when it comes to their funding and growth options.
Described as ‘your gateway to publicly funded business support’, the hub comprises a new website and a phone helpline, which people can use to speak to a human being when they need business advice. Tudor mentioned that business people had complained of becoming “lost” when trying to navigate the labyrinthine websites of the government and local authorities, hunting for advice on what programmes, loans and other options are out there. With the new Growth Hub, advisers will also apparently come armed with local knowledge, which will be particularly useful when working out which programmes may be relevant to your business and which aren’t.
Let’s hope that the hub will prove as helpful as it sounds, so that Kent businesses don’t miss out on opportunities to grow. You can check out the hub for yourself at www.kentandmedwaygrowthhub.org.uk (launching December 15).
